Why the name?
- The romantic why: Picture a free day to play outside in nature, the "wind in your hair'" be it a walk or a hike, kayaking, biking or just being. The result for me is inspired photographs, paintings or writing.
- The reality why: The thing about wind... It tends to mess things up. Rudely darted strands of tangled, knotted hair (if you're a person of hair, or it could be someone else's) cover the camera lens, whip at the eyes or blow leaves and bugs onto wet canvas. Annoying.
- "Hairy Face" or "Bug Collages," didn't have the same vibe and may have already been taken.
- Inspired by the beauty of the outdoors, I'm grateful for the places I've called home (coastal New England and the California and Pacific Northwest coasts and Rocky Mountains) as well as extensive travels throughout the US, UK, Canada and Europe. They've all given me something to cherish which I try to hold as visually memories.
- My click with photography started in my youth as a fast way to capture what I intended to paint later and often never had time to. Although I do both, photography prevails. It's right here and now, true, but painting is meditative. I've been creating printed photo journals and calendars of travels for several decades in addition to custom paintings.
- I prefer using water-soluble oil or acrylic. At times, I incorporate elements of collage and mixed media items. They're a fun, less precise way to express the feeling of a place that the lens may not capture.
- Crafting with different found objects, from beach trash and sea glass to vintage fabrics and memorabilia, is another joy. Just about anything can become something else from small sculptures and junk journals to jewelry or clothing. Depends on what speaks to you in the breeze.
