Why the name?
- The romantic 'why': Windinhair (est. 2005) symbolizes the artistic inspiration I get from being in the outdoors, kayaking. hiking, painting, snapping photos.
- The reality 'why' : Quite often it's windy and strands of tangled, knotted hair (luckily my own) cover the lens, my face, the canvas along with some leaves and a bug or two.
- Hair In Face, Face of Hair or Bugs In Teeth just didn't sound right.
- I'm inspired by the various places I've called home from Washington to Massachusetts, Colorado to California and Maine as well as travels throughout the US, UK, Canada and Europe.
- My interest in photography started in my youth as a fast way to capture what I intended to paint later. Many times I favor the photos, as do others, over the painting. I choose to do both, but photography usually prevails. I've been creating printed photo journals and calendars of our travels for decades.
- I typically paint with water-soluble oils or acrylics and often incorporate elements of collage and mixed media items--they're a fun, less precise way to express a feeling or memory of a place that a lens can't always capture.
- I also like to experiment crafting with different found objects from beach trash and sea glass to vintage fabrics and memorabilia. Just about anything can become something else: small sculptures, junk journals, jewelry or clothing. Depends on the mood.
